How can a coach help you become a better leader?
Are you serious about personal development?
If you answered no to this question, than coaching is not for you.
Having a coach means you are ready to take things seriously. That you are looking for sustainable change rather than a quick fix, and sustainable change takes time and effort.
When a client engages me as a coach, one of the first things I tell them is they can expect up to 6 months before they start seeing sustainable change. They may have early wins, but there will also be challenges. Sustainable change takes time. This is the nature of pure coaching.

What if I want a quick fix?
Pyramids were not created in a day, and neither are new habits. Although we may want sustainable change quickly, it rarely happens. The more significant the change, and the more ingrained the habits and belief systems, the hard it is to overcome.
I have heard it said it takes 3 weeks to form a new habit. Anyone who has tried to change their ways knows this is often not the case. Although some sustainable changes can occur in that short of time, many can easily take up to 9-12 months. And the best results are often achieved when you have someone there to challenge, encourage, and and hold you accountable.
Not all coaching is coaching!
In my travels on social media I see a lot of people offering there services as a coach. But are they really coaches? Or are they acting more as a consultant or teacher? Whats the difference you ask?
The biggest difference, and quickest way to determine if your coach is really a coach is by how often they give you answers to your problems. Pure coaching is based on the premise that the coachee has the answer within and only needs to think differently to figure it out. The coach does this through asking powerful questions rather than giving answers and suggestions. Through this process, the coachee learns how to think differently, setting the stage to not only solve the current challenge, but to solve all future challenges as well.
